ACT Deptford is a site specific promenade theatre performance about the gentrification process happening in Deptford neighbourhood. It is a fiction, two paralell struggles of a mother and a community activist. The play was devised collaboratively with the local community based on their real experiences and observations about the area. The piece was also a forum theatre performance so it opened up discussion with the audience, the local community from the area and also involved them in the play.
Since the performance happened the community garden has been closed down due to buildings of luxurious flats.
It is a collaboration between Old Tildemill Garden, Public Work that brings together architecture, performance and science and Veronika Szabo and River community theatre directors. The project was supported by the Arts Council.
